Byrd and the Bs:  Selections by English early music composer William Byrd will open our first concert of the season.  Pieces by 20th century composers Bela Bartok and Lili Boulanger will follow, creating a program that spans four centuries.  The finale feature is Brahms Ziguenerlieder, or Gypsy Songs.

Classic Broadway: Worcester Chorus sings “that other great American Music… BROADWAY!”  Alongside jazz, Americas greatest contribution to the history of music, it is music written for Broadway that can most justly be thought of as classic American music. In this concert, we survey the last six decades of Broadway musicals, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to “Rent”.

Back to Bach. Salisbury Singers opens its 39th season with its annual concert featuring the extraordinary music of J.S. Bach. Works will include Cantata 71 God is My King, along with the Magnificat in D, with its superb mixture of intense organization, great lyrical beauty and an opening chorus that is one of the most breathtaking in all of Baroque music. Salisbury Singers will be accompanied by the Bach Consort of Worcester.

Bach (among others).

Classical Masses: In 2012, the Worcester Chorus presented Bachs B Minor Mass to great acclaim. Come back this winter and hear two mass settings by Mozart and Haydn, who were inspired by Bachs choral writing. Mozart wrote his Mass in C Minor for his young bride Constanze; Haydn wrote his Lord Nelson Mass as Napoleon was rolling across Europe, threatening Vienna itself. With Arcadia Players, Ian Watson, Artistic Director, and guest soloists.

Voices of Light: The Passion of Joan of Arc.  Voices of Light merges the legendary silent film masterpiece by Carl Dreyer (The Passion of Joan of Arc) with a live performance of a ravishing score by composer Richard Einhorn.  With orchestra, solo voices, and Worcester Children’s Chorus as the voice of Joan.

The British are Coming! Salisbury Singers will excite its audience with a concert of music embodying Englands centuries-old, grand choral tradition. Perhaps no other than Great Britain has a richer choral heritage, distinctive by its ringing sounds, pure harmonies and majestic organ accompaniments. Many have been introduced to this thrilling sound by way of broadcast British events such as royal weddings, funerals and jubilees. This all-British program will spotlight the music of William Walton and Benjamin Britten. The Singers will be joined by the Worcester Childrens Chorus, conducted by Jennifer Kane, and guest organist William Ness.

Hecho en Mexico:  Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us as we present music from 17th century Mexico to the present day. Joined by a Mariachi band and dancers from the Ritmos Academy, this lively program will include a Latino art exhibit displayed in Dean Hall.  This will be presented in partnership with the Institute for Latino Arts & Culture from Worcesters Centro Las Americas and with a grant from GWCF.
